Pistol Packin' Mama

south_africa_master_collection_178Catherine here. So I was talking to my grandmother last night. She went to Atlantic City last week and got stopped by a guy at a cash booth to ask her about her t-shirt, which my mother had made for her with a picture from our family trip to South Africa. When I originally heard about it, I assumed that this t-shirt had a picture of my entire family on it, posing in front of a Land Rover in the African bush. Turns out that instead, my mother selected a picture of me sitting on the hood of the Land Rover, alone, holding a rifle. If looked at out of context, it could seem as if my grandmother were a gun-toting member of the NRA, advocating the idea that everyone--granddaughters included--should have the right to bear arms. I'm no Michael Moore, but I'm not sure I feel comfortable emblazoning my grandmother's chest with a message about gun control.
