Procrastinator's Toolbox

Come and Pleix

BirdspleixPleix is spectacular.  A virtual community based in Paris made up of 3D artists, musicians, and graphic designers, it's chock full of slick and fun quicktime films with the type of viz fx and humor that dilate your pupils and bring out the involuntary "oh man, that's awesome"s at regular intervals.  If your time is limited, at the very least, check out Birds.

Thanks to Wookie Crisps for this one.

Sit n' Spin

Images_3Like the best of toys, this little Zefrank oddity is simple and fun.  You're presented with a blank screen.  You draw lines one it.  You click on the "click here to spin your strings" button.  You watch your drawing go from 2D gobbly-gook to 3D ooh-ahhs.  You go "whee!"

Thanks to Gene Perelsoni for the SMPT find.

- report by SMPT correspondent, Kyoung Kim, who would've put this up last week if the server wasn't down for maintenance.  Effin' server.

My snowflake brings all the boys to the yard...

Snowflake_1Wilson Bentley, or the "Snowflake Man" and discoverer of "no two snowflakes are alike," took over 5000 photographs of snowflakes.  The Jericho Historical Society has put some of them online.  Pretty magical.

- report by SMPT correspondent, Kyoung Kim, who says it's far more magical than the mysterious smell in the office

Bubble Talk

BubblesYou've seen them around.  Bubble text stickers on posters throughout the city, soon throughout the world!  Find out what it's all about, peruse the plethora of public pith, learn who's the mastermind behind the brainchild.

Thanks to Gene Perelson for the procrastinating goodness.

- report by SMPT correspondent, Kyoung Kim, who now's in the mood for bubble tea -- yum!

Color Me Penguin

MarchColoring sheets of a penguin family or homies from the "kid arcade" section of the site devoted to the penguin-omenal film March of the Penguins to print and, well, color.  Decorate your cube, decorate your boss.  Color one and draw in a text bubble that asks colleagues to "Kiss my ass, you Excel whores."  Good fun.

- report by SMPT correspondent, Kyoung Kim, who says no, she is not getting paid to advert the movie -- and yes, it's really that good

Call your MOMA

ThisiswoodGive your eyes a break from excel formulas and powerpoint screen wipes, and bathe them in the beauty of the MOMA's online art gallery while at the same time getting a pop edumacation on all things arts history. Yes, there is a world beyond your computer, and it's in your computer.   Freaky!
